Converting the Anet A8 to AM8

This project was intended to beef up the frame of an Anet A8 by adding metal extrusion and holding it all together with custom 3D printed parts.  It was a very fun and challenging project!

AM8 COMING TOGETHER

One main difference of the AM8 is that it has a metal frame.  It also has an electronic compartment that is covered.

Y STOP SWITCH WAS BROKEN

Because the Y stop was broken the Y stepper would not spin both directions.

Tackling the Issue

NEW Y STOP ALL WIRED UP.

It's very important to add sheathing and heat shrink wrap to protect all the critical wires.

GUNK LEFT ON HEATING BLOCK AND PRINTER TIP.

There were issues with the hot end extruding filament.  Some of those issues stemmed from a build up of filament on the hot end. This likely happened from a failed print that built up on the hot end.

WE REBUILT THE HOT END WITH A NEW HEAT BLOCK, COOLING STEM, AND TIP.

Nice and clean with no leftover filament.

PARTS READY TO ASSEMBLE THE HOT END EXTRUDER.

All parts go together to be connected and attached to the Z axis.

We also attached a silicone cover to heating block.  A fan was added to the heat sink to cool the filament so it doesn't melt before heating the hot end tip.
